FAQ:
I’m Dr. Thomas Rottet and I’ve been a chiropractor for over 30 years. I’ve always had a passion for treating the whole person as a unit and not just as parts of a machine. I believe the individual is more than the sum of his/her parts. Body organ systems are co-dependent on other organ systems. My view is that biomechanics, nutrition, exercise, supplementation, and mental/spiritual health are all vital components of total health.
Over the years I’ve had success treating patients with acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems as well as those suffering from fitness and nutritional deficiencies.
There are some factors that all ailments have in common. By addressing the common issues discovered through health questionnaires and specific blood tests, we can devise a recovery plan specific to your health concern.
As a chiropractor, I view the person as a whole being. Each organ system often has a direct effect on another organ system. For example, if your fasting blood sugar is elevated, it may ultimately have an effect on your liver and cardiac function.
Functional medicine uncovers the root cause of your health concern and addresses it at that level. This contrasts with most medical approaches where if you have inflammation, you are prescribed an anti-inflammatory. If you have pain, you are prescribed an analgesic. If you have elevated fasting blood sugar, you are prescribed medication to decrease your blood sugar. In each of those scenarios the “cause” is never addressed. Therefore, the problem can never be resolved but only controlled with those medications. However, with functional medicine we endeavor to address the root cause of the problem and nip it in the bud. Typically, we will use food as medicine, nutritional supplements as needed, chiropractic care, movement, as well as education in developing a healthy lifestyle.
I work best with highly motivated individuals who are sincere in their desire to achieve wellness. As a result, some sacrifice may be necessary on your part in terms of diet and lifestyle. If you are determined to achieve your best possible health, you are a great candidate to be a successful functional medicine patient.
If you are a patient looking for a quick fix and not willing to make lifestyle changes, functional medicine is probably not the best option for you.
Rottet Chiropractic/Wellness strives to assist you in achieving your best health possible. We do this through a questionnaire and a subsequent conversation to identify your specific needs. Next, thorough blood testing is frequently essential to our understanding the total picture. Once we can
match your symptoms with the blood test results, we will run a 40+ page report and go over your findings in detail. Next, we will devise a plan specific to you to enable you to achieve your best health.
Functional medicine works because your body works when given the right nutrients. I compare it to putting 87 octane fuel into a Formula One race car. The cars that we typically drive frequently use 87 octane however, the high-performing Formula One cars typically use an octane level between
95 and 102. If you put 87 octane into a Formula One race car it will still go around the track, but it cannot go around the track at 200 mph and will probably break down sooner than if you had put in the correct higher-octane fuel. Similarly, our bodies will function on processed food, seed oils, high
sugar diets, and a lack of exercise, but we are not going to function at our optimum. In addition, we will likely break down sooner. Frequently we hear that someone in their mid-50s is experiencing chronic pain. The person then says, it just must be that “I’m getting old.” However, it very well may
be decades of poor nutrition that are allowing systemic inflammation to cause chronic pain throughout the body. As a functional medicine specialist, I purpose to help my patients live a healthier, pain-free life. I’m not sure functional medicine will add years to life, but I am confident it can add life to years.
By closely following the lifestyle and nutritional support recommendations we recommend, patients typically see results within the first 1 to 3 months.
It’s imperative that we keep open the lines of communication throughout the course of care so that I know how you are responding to the various treatment recommendations. Biweekly contacts are a great way for me to know how you are progressing and to continue with the status quo or make
minor adjustments to optimize your health.
Once your health goals have been achieved, I do recommend maintenance plans to continue with your good health. These maintenance plans are specific to your health condition.
If you are ready to get your health under control, I look forward to meeting you in my zoom room to have a discussion and get you on the path to total health.
If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Yours in health,
Thomas Rottet D.C., C.F.M.P
